These devices are typically located along the roadside and are controlled by operators at a local traffic operations center (most likely managed by the local DPW), which aids them in monitoring and managing traffic conditions. The field devices that aids operators in performing their functions are: VMS, Signal Controllers, Reversible HOV, Low-Power FM Radio, Vehicle Detection, Lane Control Signals, Call Boxes and CCTV.
